First Aid courses

3 Day HSE First Aid at Work Course
Introduction
This course covers all aspects of First Aid and meets the requirements of the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. The regulations require that "an employer shall provide, or ensure there is provided, such numbers of suitable persons as is adequate and appropriate in the circumstances for rendering first aid to his employees if they become ill or injured at work".

Participants will be able to recognise and treat conditions that they come across in the workplace.

Course Content

Health and safety administration and the duties of the first aider.
The aims of the first aiders
Handling an incident
Initial assessment and carrying out a search
Disorders of the breathing and respiratory system. Wounds and bleeding and the circulatory system. Emergency life support.
Dressings and bandages.
Head injuries and the causes of unconsciousness. Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
Burns and scolds.
Eye injuries and conditions
Heat and cold on the body.
Muscle, joint and bone injuries.

Certificate

A certificate is awarded to candidates who successfully complete the course assessment which is valid for 3 years.

One Day Appointed Person Course (EFAW)
Introduction
This course is designed for low risk environments where there is no requirement for a First Aid at Work trained first aider and also for persons acting in a supporting role to qualified First Aiders.

This certificate aims to provide delegates with basic theoretical and practical skills in current first aid. It is designed for employers who wish to provide the highest standard of first aid care to employees, contractors and the public.

Course Syllabus

Delegates will receive range of suitable first aid subjects including:

Aims and principles of first aid
What to do in an emergency
Recognition of emergency illness
Asphyxia - care of a choking casualty
Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
Assessment and treatment bleeding and shock
Assortment of other inor injuries
The first aid box and accident book

Course Duration

The course is of 6 hours duration

Course Outcome

Successful completion of the course qualifies the holder to act as a HSE EFAW qualified !st Aider in the workplace. The certificate is valid for three years from the date of issue.

 2 Day HSE Refresher First Aid at Work Course

Introduction
This is a re-qualification course for the First Aid at work certificate.
This course is a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved First Aid at Work course, in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. The refresher course is needed every 3 years to enable First Aiders to continue to hold a First Aid at Work full certificate. The syllabus covers all the details of the full first aid course in brief as well as catching up on any technique changes that may have occurred.

2 Day Child Carers First Aid Course

Introduction
First Aid for Pre-school Children is a 12 hour training course that is especially designed for carers of young children in any environment. It is specifically designed for school and nursery staff, parents and play leaders.

The course meets the requirements of the HSE recommendations for Appointed Person and can be linked to NVQ units.

Course Syllabus

This course is highly participative and delegates will take receive range of suitable first aid subjects including:

Aims and principles of first aid
What to do in an emergency
Recognition of emergency illness
Asphyxia - care of a choking casualty
Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) infant/child/adult
Assessment and treatment bleeding and shock
Assessment and treatment of fractures
Assessment and treatment of burns and scalds.
Dressings
The first aid box and accident book
